POTTER MAGIC MAKES BLUES CUP HOPES VANISH
Leek went of the Integro League Cup at the Second Round stage after going down 4-1 to Runcorn Linnets at Harrison Park.
Boss Neil Baker took the opportunity to shuffle his starting eleven, but his options at the back were somewhat limited with both Darren Chadwick and Scott Lycett out injured and new signing Jack Sanders unavailable.
Runcorn went ahead on 22 minutes when Connor McCarthy was brought down and Danny O'Brien made no mistake from the penalty spot.
The Linnets went further ahead early in the second half when Freddie Potter headed home.
Town pulled one back through Aaron Bott when a diagonal ball into the box was guided back across goal by Charlie Walford leaving Bott an easy finish from close range.
Any hope of a comeback was short-lived as the visitors made it 3-1 in the 72nd minute when Potter scored with a stunning 25-yard strike that left Danny Roberts rooted to the spot.
The scoring was completed two minutes later when the head of Aaron Morris connected with a cross to head powerfully over Roberts.
Runcorn travel to Hyde United in the third round whilst Blues move on to another tricky away league match at Mossley on Saturday.
