LADIES MAINTAIN WINNING START

Ladies maintain 100% record in league after long journey to Atherstone.

Leek travelled to Atherstone in Warwickshire for this West Midlands Regional League Match and were on the front foot from the start with both Izzy Wretham and Lacey-May Smith going close. Atherstone had a good chance on 10 minutes which Leek Keeper Hannah Austin pushed over the bar.

On 15 minutes Izzy Wretham ran from half way line down the right and fired a shot over the keeper from 30 yards only to be given offside which the Leek players and manager questioned.

Five minutes later Katie Maya was brought down in the box and Leek were awarded a penalty which was saved by the Atherstone keeper.

Another foul on the edge of the box brought Leek's first goal when Katie Maya stepped up for the free kick and fired into the top of the net.

35 minutes in and Jules Kendrick ran through from midfield and provide a perfect pass again for Maya who tapped the ball past the keeper. Atherstone were not out of this game though and again produced a good chance which the striker fired over the bar.

Half time Atherstone Rangers 0-2 Leek Town

Leek were straight onto the attack in the second half and Michaela Lockett forced a corner which was taken by Izzy Wretham and cleared the keeper going straight in the net at the far post for Leek's third goal.

Leek then took control of the game with the midfield providing ammunition for the attackers and the Leek defence looking very solid. Elise Skelding had been introduced at half time for Leek and she was found by Izzy Wretham with a good through ball and made no mistake to put Leek 4-0 up.

A similar move was to take place a few minutes later with Lockett providing the assist and Skelding with a good left foot finish for Leek's fifth. Atherstone never gave up but found it difficult to penetrate Leek,s defence in the later stages.
