Ladies move up to 2nd in the West Midlands Regional Women's League Division 1

All 14 players who took part today did really well. It was a long journey and 3 more good away points to put us 2nd in the league.

For the only game in the league that survived the weather Leek Town Ladies Travelled To Atherstone some 140 mile round trip.
Leek started well and 5 minutes in Emily Boon found Shannon Moores who had timed her run well to receive the pass and fired home to open the scoring for Leek.
Shortly after the restart Mollie Shaw broke up a Atherstone attack and made ground down the left before finding Emily Boon who rifled home from 18 yards.
Atherstone then gathered themselves and worked a good chance forcing Leek keeper Hannah Austin to make a good save.
Amber Stanway picked up the ball and battled through 3 players before being tripped, the resultant free kick taken by Lacey Smith fell to Kirsty Ryder who surged into the box and unleashed a shot which gave the Atherstone keeper no chance to increase the lead to 3-0. Atherstone tried to attack down the middle but found it difficult to break through the back 3 of Charlotte Bromley, Emma Smith and Mollie Shaw.
Leek were then awarded a free kick taken by Izzy Wretham which was headed into her own net by a defender to put Leek 4-0 up.
The tricky Atherstone centre forward then scored a good individual goal to reduce the deficit to 4-1
Soon after the restart Elise Skelding was found by Amber Stanway and went past two Atherstone defenders and her shot hit the keeper and bounced out to on rushing Emily Boon who scored her second goal of the game to make it 5-1
On 40 minutes Shannon Moores found Izzy Wretham and with a great chip from the edge of the box beat the keeper but hit the post.

Atherstone came out fighting for the second half and with a well worked move found one of the strikers who scored from close range to bring the score back to 5-2.
Charlotte Bromley and Izzy Wretham had both been taken off at half time as both were carrying injuries, they had been replaced by Charlie Awde and Alice Painter.
Awde playing right side of the back 3 made a good interception and found Painter who charged down the right side and with a good pass inside she found Lacey Smith who hit a great shot which came back off the keeper which Elise Skelding ran onto and made no mistake to put Leek 6-2 in the Lead. Kirsty Ryder who was having a tremendous game then intercepted the ball after the restart and found Shannon Moores who again put Skelding in but she fired just over the bar.
Atherstone were not finished though and with good combination play got their striker in again and she finished well to bring it back to 6-3.
On 70 minutes Emily Boon crossed to find Skelding again who finished in style to make it 7-3 to Leek. Chloe Gerrity then replaced Boon and was soon in the action intercepting and laying the ball back to Ryder who found Moores running through with a good pass, Moores beat the keeper but her shot hit the post and went out. Just before the end another good run down the right by Alice Painter produced a corner which the keeper collected.
