Good 3 points for the ladies as they opened their West Midlands Regional League season following a run of cup games.

Good all round team performance today against a well organised Tamworth team. We played some good football today and was also pleasing to see players returning from injury. Important and well deserved 3 points.
- Ian Smith, Manager

Leek were straight on the attack from the start with Lacey-May Smith firing just wide on 2 minutes. On the next Leek attack Tamworth were asking for offside but Laura Baskerville was not interfering with play as Jules Kendrick ran through from the half way line to beat the keeper and put Leek 1-0 up.
Tamworth came back at Leek and forced keeper Hannah Austin into making a good save. 5 minutes later the scores were level as Leek did not deal with a Tamworth corner that ended up in the back of the net.
Emily Boon was having some good runs down the left flank and supplying some great balls into the box with a couple of near misses from both strikers.
Tamworth were now finding it difficult to penetrate the Leek defence with centre backs Emma Smith and Naomi Sale-Hancock in fine form.
Lacey-May Smith then put Michaela Lockett through with a great ball and she made no mistake to put Leek back in front.
After the restart Charlie Awde made a good interception to prevent the excellent Tamworth number 11 from running through.
Amber Stanway then won the ball in midfield and found Michaela Lockett on the right, a fine piece of skill from Lockett put Kendrick in with a shooting chance on the edge of the box and she fired into the top corner for her 2nd and Leek's 3rd goal on 44 minutes.

Captain Naomi Sale-Hancock had to leave the field so versatile defender Simone Kelsall was moved from left back to centre back and Mollie Shaw was introduced at half time for her first appearance since injury.
Leek were in control now and Tamworth were in defensive mode and defended very well indeed. Unlucky Lacey-May Smith then fired a fierce shot against the crossbar which was the third time she had hit the woodwork. Alice Painter then replaced Emily Boon and made several powerful runs down the Tamworth Left.
Lacey-May Smith then hit a wonder strike from 25 yards which hit the back of the net for 4-1 and put the game beyond Tamworth. Hannah Johnson then replaced Awde at right back and coped with the tricky number 11 really well. Kelly Porter made some good runs up front and caused several problems for the Tamworth defence. Kirsty Ryder who had been out for several weeks with an ankle injury played for the last 15 minutes and appeared to come through it ok.
