Announcement

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of our under 14 players. Taran Gill was killed on Friday 29th January 2016 in a car accident, along with his mother, Amrit. His younger sister, Simar, and father Rash were also in the car and have since been released from hospital. Leicester Forest Rugby Club extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Gill family at this very sad time..

We were made aware of the tragic news on Sunday morning, ahead of our planned game against South Leicester by Taran’s granddad.

This is Taran’s fourth season with us, having started playing rugby at School. Taran developed in to an exceptional rugby player, winning our award for “Most Improved Player of the Year” last season. He was a well-liked and respected part of the team and a young man who was a pleasure to coach. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

After we told the rest of the team and their parents, the boys were given the choice to play or cancel our game with South Leicester and after some discussion amongst themselves, decided to play the game in his honour.

Before leaving the changing room, the boys held a minutes silence for Taran. They decided to retire the number 3 shirt, not only for this season, but for their remaining time in junior rugby. They have each written a message on the shirt and we would like to frame this once complete. We will decide in due course with the family if we will give this to them or display in the club.
Prior to kick off, the boys wore black arm bands and along with South Leicester, Melton Mowbray and our under 15s, there was a minutes applause.

This weekend the club will be honouring Taran with a minutes applause before all games, from seniors to minis and we hope you will join us in this rememberence.
