Leicester Lions looks forward to 2017-18 with new Director of Rugby, Jack Heald, and new coaching set-up.

The dust has settled on a great season at Leicester Lions RFC and a fantastic effort to finish 3rd in National League 2 North.

Firstly I think it is important to acknowledge our outgoing Head Coach Andy Key and wish him all the best of the next season at Rotherham. Andy over the last 18months has worked tirelessly with the club and getting the 1st XV to finish 3rd for the last two seasons is a fantastic effort of his part.

We would like to thank our main sponsor at the club TDMP for their continue support of the club. Scott Moore, Managing Director said “Over the past twelve months our partnership with Leicester Lions RFC – both the men’s and women’s teams - has been exceptionally rewarding. We’ve seen some fantastic matches and have been extremely proud to watch the teams run out with TMDP on their kits – they have been a real credit to us.

“We’ve watched the club and the teams flourish this season under the guidance and commitment of outgoing Head Coach Andy Key and we are thoroughly looking forward to next season with new Head Coach Jack Heald – here’s to our continued success”.

The division looks like it will be fiercely competed next season. With Sale FC losing the play off they will be aiming to do one better next year after finishing one league position about Lions this season along with Blaydon and Macclesfield returning after visiting National 1 last year.

During this time of year we always say goodbye to a couple of players that are moving onto new challenges at clubs. We would like to say thanks to Jamal Hamilton (Chinnor) and Marco Dalavalle (Traveling) who are leaving us this summer. Best of luck to both of them.

This coming season I'm delighted to announce my coaching team of Tom Williams as (Breakdown and LO Coach), Jason Aldwinkle (Scrum Coach), Jon Boden (Backs Coach) & Guy Thompson (Guest Coach) will be working alongside Director of Rugby Jack Heald as part of his coaching team. The club is also pleased to announce the appointment of Strength and Conditioning Coach Kris MacMahon & Tom Heeley into the team, bringing a weath of experience who job will be to increase the performacne of athletes at the club for the forthcoming season.
