Emphatic win in first pre-season game

The Lions started their season off on a winning note with a comprehensive 11 try win over Burton.

The game was split into four 20min quarters with all players getting a decent run out. The coaching team obviously wanted to get a feel for how players new and old are beginning to gel with each other and this was reflected in some players getting game time in new positions.

Lots of positives came out of the game, notably all 11 tries being successfully converted by new fly-halves, Will Maisey and Jonno Williams. A consequence of holiday season also meant the front 5 also had to put in a big shift as there was only one forward replacement on the bench!

Lions will be looking to improve their defense after leaking 4 tries, mainly through missed one on one tackles. No doubt this will be a focus in training this week.

A second pre-season game against Sutton Coldfield was planned in for this weekend but this has now been cancelled as Sutton are unable to fulfil. Instead the squad will have a Saturday morning training session and will look to build into the local derby against Hinckley on 23rd August.
