Sunday 20th May was the first Leicester Storm junior festival of the season and the U11s were against some of their previous rivals in the shape of North Derbyshire Chargers, Nottingham Outlaws and Northampton Knights.

It was evident from the early games that Storm had learned some really good Rugby League habits by playing direct, igniting some pace on to the ball and playing out their sets.

Both fixtures against the Chargers were really friendly encounters and both teams were able to play some flowing Rugby. Moreover, this flowing nature of the game allowed for a handful of try’s from both teams.

Fixtures against Northampton are always difficult and this week was to prove no different. Storm played a really patient game to run over a number try’s late on in the tackle count but were matched by a few breakaways from the Knights.

Outlaws had turned up with a slightly weakened squad but nonetheless had some strong players on hand. Storm were ready for a physical encounter and were not deterred by the force of the opposition. Outlaws were able to play the offload, which led to their try’s and Leicester made some devastating runs to crash over the Outlaws whitewash.

A big thank you goes out to all the Storm officials who organised the event and ran the barbecue (which smelled amazing!!!).

I’m sure all involved in the club, along with myself, were delighted to see the great sport that is Rugby League being played on such a scale in our city!

Thanks for your support and involvement,

Adam.
