For the 2016/17 season we are reaching out to all ex-players in a push to swell the numbers of adult players representing the club.

This is about coming back to the club on whatever basis suits you and your circumstances.

This initiative is being launched from the clubs official webpage under the’ Keep Your Boots On’ mantle and we have already seen a number of ex-players show some interest.

Explaining in more detail, Director of Rugby Karl Lawrinson said “over the years, in common with a lot of clubs, we’ve seen players drift away from the game for a number of reasons.
Myself and the club chairman Derek Leake, were discussing the recent Junior/Senior colts teams that we have have run consecutively over the past 15 years and thought of the 250+ players from those sides alone that no longer play.
You can take this further back and count many players that have played down here and these are the people that we want to re-engage.

We recognise that everyone has other commitments and we’re not going to be pressuring people to train if that’s not for them or to play every week if they can’t.

This is about coming back to the club on whatever basis suits you and your circumstances.

Even if you can only play once or twice a month we want to hear from you. Those occasions when you can play might be the weeks in which we need numbers to get sides out.
Shift work and family commitments have affected many teams over the years so a large pool of regular and occasional players is necessary.

We have a policy that all players will get a minimum of half a game.
We all know the social side and camaraderie that Rugby offers and we want to build on what we have at Leigh RUFC. There are not many places where the clubhouse is still buzzing late into the Saturday evening

This is a call to everyone who has played (not necessary with us) to get back to enjoying Saturdays again.
Naturally we are also looking to strengthen our 1st and 2nd XV squads and for those with aspirations to play at the highest levels for the club we will give every encouragement.

A good way for you to get back involved is the light training sessions that the 4ths participate in on Monday evenings at 19:00 and is open to all adults.

If you think you have more to offer and believe in yourself then club training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18:45 may be more beneficial.

So “Keep Your Boots On” is the call – if you’ve ever played for the club before we want you back involved and, of course, we welcome any new players too.
