Broughton Park knock Leigh for six

Leigh played League Leaders, Broughton Park, at Hand Lane yesterday and they fielded a much changed side, due to injuries sustained by Captain, Ross Shepherd, fly half, Alex Leadbetter and the unavailability of flanker, Charlie Wood.

Leigh got off to a racing start but their early pressure, near to the Broughton Park line, unfortunately produced no points and it was Broughton Park who were the first to score, when their forwards combined well to get them over the Leigh line, for a converted try, wide out, on their right flank.

Rob Drake narrowed the deficit to four points when he slotted a penalty on fifteen minutes. That was to be about as good as it got for Leigh as Broughton then took the game by the scruff of the neck and took complete control of the match through their forward domination. A second converted try by Broughton Park took the sides off at half time with them leading by fourteen points to three.

The Leigh pain continued, early in the second half, when the Broughton Park No. 4 dummied his way over the Leigh line from forty metres out for a converted try.

Broughton Park added three more tries, two of which were converted, to emerge as very worthy winners by forty points to three.

Next week, Leigh have a week off before travelling to their old friends and adversaries, Widnes on 21st October, for what could be a very interesting match, with only two points separating the teams in the League.
