Young Guns take out Broughton Park 12 - 52

Leigh RUFC have been without a Colts team for too long, but with the introduction of a new Academy structure the club fielded a Senior Colts side on Sunday for the first time in almost 3 years. The young side travelled to Broughton Park to kick off this seasons campaign and secured a comfortable league win over the home side. The game ending 12-52.

"The team are young, most of the players are eligible to play in a junior league, but we have worked hard through the summer and developed a solid Academy system to give players the support and development opportunities they need to progress to Senior rugby over the coming seasons. We still have a lot to learn, at one point we had 3 players sat in the sin bin. This was down to technical infringement, not discipline. But while we only had 12 men on the field we didn't concede a point. The coaches and everyone at the club are very proud of how this team has matured and look forward to a successful and sustainable future.

We always looked in control of the game. Defensively the team were both physical and resilient, offensively we always looked dangerous and well able to exploit space. Our forward pack were organised and the back line dominated the Broughton midfield."

Tries scored by Duffy, Wilkinson, Richards, Rudd, Atkin 2, Carrick, Tumy. Conversions Rudd 6.
