Club likely to finish semi-pro operations

Firstly, I wish to apologise to our fans who have not been kept up to date as much as we would have liked to with regards to post-season events. In short, there has been little good news to report, and each day we anticipated news which would have been worth reporting.

We have been working hard to influence those we needed to in order to secure a move back to our home in Leigh, wherever that could be. The obvious choice for us and good enough for entry to the North West Counties League was the pitch adjacent to the main stadium at Leigh Sports Village, surrounded by the athletics track, but this option has been refused and as no other suitable, floodlit ground is available we can no longer continue as a semi-pro club.

The deadline for applications into the league is today (31st May) so without a miracle we will not be playing in the North West Counties League next season

We are devastated as a board that we have not been able to turn things around despite a huge amount of hard work behind the scenes. Since losing our promised home at Leigh Sports Village, life for the club has been an uphill struggle and we are grateful for those of you who have stuck with us to keep the club alive.

Football is an expensive hobby however and in addition to sponsorship the club needs a mechanism to earn money to support itself; this cannot be achieved without a 'home'

Fortunately the junior section of the club is stronger than ever and the youth programme affiliated to us has a full intake of students; this in itself makes it all the more sad that they will not have the standard of senior team that a club of this size deserves

There is a further board meeting this evening (Tuesday), after which we will hope to issue more information.

It will remain with the juniors etc Paul but there won't be a senior side at any sort of decent level it would seem

Do we know why the ground next to the LSV was declined as a venue?

Leigh Athletic already use it as a home venue Mark and it seems the LSV don't want x number of teams on there - déja vu and then some!

So sorry to hear of your sad news, everyone at Warrington Town always enjoyed the encounters with Leigh, a friendly local rivalry, which sadly we are unlikely to see again. I hope all your fans looking for another club to support will consider following the Town, with all the links between our clubs, the transport links, and the mutual dislike of all things Wigan. Although it has seen to be coming, still a very sad day for North West football in general.
