Under 18's Match Report
Leigh Genesis v Lake College Cumbria
Leigh Genesis U18 College Team were in 2nd round cup action at the LSV against Lake College, Cumbria.
Lakes looked in determined mood playing some lovely football but being well prepared to dominate physically. Genesis were hurried into making mistakes but as the half progressed, they matched Lakes physical style and got a foothold into the game.
Genesis created a number of half chances but did not convert. Five minutes before the break Lakes broke the deadlock when a looping header caught goalkeeper Josh Bagley off guard and Lakes went 1-0 up at the interval.
Within five minutes of the start of the second half Genesis made changes to the wide midfield positions. This paid off early on when Chad Hill squirmed round his marker within the box and drove the ball past the Lakes keeper. Moments later a similar right hand side move created the opportunity for a driven cross that caused havoc in the Lakes defence and Tom Jackson forced the ball past the line to put Genesis 2-1 up.
With 30 minutes to go Genesis rode their luck quite a few times but also had the chance to make the game safe.
A great win for Genesis against a very good Lakes team.
