7s season comes to a close after our own, Edinburgh Northern, Penicuik and Walkerburn tournaments.

Following the success of our own 7s tournament on April 12th, where as well a successful event in general, our lads did well to make the final, losing to a strong Linlithgow side, the 7s squad went on to compete at the Edinburgh Northern (April 19), Penicuik (April 26) and Walkerburn (May 24) tournaments.

The players have enjoyed the short 7s season, and a big thank you to all of them for their commitment to it. Craig Smith has been voted 7s Player of the Season, and big raps to Kenny Dannfald, Craig Winton, Steven Eadie and Kyle Gow, who along with Craig Smith, formed the core of the squad throughout April and May. Here's to a good season, and an even better one in 2015, when we hope to improve further and compete in more tournaments.

Leith 7s - April 12th
After nearly 6 hours of intense 7s action, Linlithgow Reds won the Leith 7s Cup Final with a 29-14 win over the home side. Ross Plenderleith (no relation) was the West Lothian side's star man with 4 of their 5 tries in the final. Linlithgow were well-deserved winners, having been the standout team throughout the day, winning all their matches, vs Edinburgh Eagles RL, The Spring Chickens and The Occassionals, who won the Plate with a 50-0 win over Penicuik. Edinburgh Eagles won the Shield beating Lismore in their final.

Craig Smith stood out for Leith, and in a bit of a 'homer decision', received the Player of the Tournament trophy. Most of all though, Leith Rugby Club are delighted to have held the tournament, and look forward to hosting it annually moving forward. Feedback has been very positive, and we hope all the teams enjoyed their day out, particularly those who made the effort to travel to Edinburgh; Hyndland RFC, Linlithgow RFC and Fife Southern RFC. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon, as we do the other competing sides - although bar chat on Saturday night implied the Spring Chickens may not be back!
