Les Quennevais triumph over St Jacques at KG5
Report by Will Hunter
In the last game of the League season, Les Quennevais were welcomed to KG5 pitch in Guernsey to face a tough St Jacques Squad having beating Banks on their home ground previously.
It was a tight first 15 minutes as both sides remained pointless, neither side wanting to concede; however it was a penalty mistake for Q not staying on their feet which gave St Jacques the first 3 points, beautifully struck kick from the Q 10 metre mark. However, this awoke the Q squad, and shortly after conceding, Q piled on the pressure from quick ball work and Captain Wayne Boschat found a gap in Jacques defence to score under the post after 25 minutes, Nick Portch the newly designated kicker converts at ease. Two tries came from Fly Half Tommy Butler towards the end of first half, one off a tap penalty on the 22m and one off a well worked lineout on the 5m, Nick just converting one of the two making it 19-3 at half time.
Tries didn’t end in the second half for Q as Dan Lezala sweetly scored from quick hands by Q, conversion missed but this put Q in the driving seat for more. Matt Davenport-Brown scored a try, shortly after coming on at centre, between the posts after powering his way through the middle, Nick easily converts.
Prop Chris Pople touched down off a great break from Captain Boschat, however leaving him injured and forced to be replaced by Jack Le Brun, Conversion by Nick. Q’s heads slipped as St.Jacques scored their first try but missed the conversion. This was slowly cancelled out with impressive ball carrying skills from Dan Lezala, Nick Converted. Adam Brindle replaced vetran Howard Philips at Hooker.
Unfortunately, St.Jacques score again with a conversion made. However it was Q that would have the last word as Dan Lezala completed a hat trick by scoring a try in the corner, making the final score 50-15.
Man of the Match went to Dan Lezala for his 3 Tries and impressive ball carrying. Dick of the day was shared by Virgins James for dropping a high ball, and Nick for forgetting his passport.
