Health & Safety - Dealing with an Accident
These guidelines cover all those injuries that occur whilst playing rugby or taking part in an organised squad training session:
- Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation;
- Is there danger of further injury;
- Listen to what the injured person is saying;
- Alert the duty First Aider who should take the appropriate action for minor injuries;
- Refer to the medical details of the injured person (found with the coach of the age group) to advise Emergency Service Personnel of any medical conditions;
- In the event of an injury requiring specialist treatment, call the emergency services;
- Deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervised;
- Do not move someone with major injuries. Wait for the personnel from the Emergency Services;
- Contact the injured persons Parent/Carer;
- Complete the Accident Report Form;
- admission to a Hospital Intensive Care Unit, High Dependency Unit, Specialised Spinal or Head Injury Unit;
- Death which occurs during or within 6 hours of a game or training session finishing;
- That is likely to result in an Insurance Claim to the RFU Insurers;
