Due to fixture congestion on Hampstead Heath this fixture moved to Finchley RFC and the addition of a fun bus for the mighty 4's meant all players arrived together, changed and on the fieldf for the warm up together, this enabled preparations to begin early with veteran Jamie Sarll
taking the team through a warm up and the whole team talking about the game ahead and mentally preparing themselves for the mamouth task ahead, the form book showed that Hampstead had won both previous league fixtures but only ever by one try and both time the 4th xv had left it too late to wake up and join the game!
With frankie Harper and Ian Smith
back on board after a 4 week lay off the centres were strong enabling James Newsome
to run free on the wing and Jordon "innit" Coughlan to police the other wing
So this was it the stage was set the team was in place it was now down to the players to show how much they wanted the silver ware in the first full league season for the 4th xv.....and boy did they want it!
First blood to Letchworth after a 10 minute physical showdown with the pack trying to force domination and gain field position a bash up the middle by Frankie and Smithy offloading to Saffa Newsome to score, unlike last week Mark "donkey" Ellis had his kicking feet with him this week and added the extras!
Soon after James Saffa Newsome added another with the donkey adding the extras.
the game flowed well with the extra wide pitch giving the backs plenty of running space and the Hampstead backs put up a brilliant fight but just didnt have the penetration that flowed in thier last game.
Just before half time a quick tap penalty from that man James Newsome
broke through for an offload to Jordan "innit" coughlan sent him through un contested for his first senior score for the club on his debut on the wing!
Donkey Ellis converted for the extras much to the delight of his travelling posse.
No substitutions made at half time for the mighty 4's with the bench holding on while the game settled, unfortunatley george Briggs the firey Ginger chap who seems to suffer from selective mutism was still serving 7 minutes of an enforced yellow rest and the first score was conceeded by the black and ambers.
returning to full strength some changes followed with the huge george Smith only 17 joining the scrum for only his 3rd match of the season being a late joiner to the club.
Scores then followed from that man Ian Smithy Smith and the veteran full back Hetty now in his 26th year with Letchworth.
Ming the merciless came off second best in a try saving tackle meaning the welshman Aidan Price
became the second lock to be substituted and aquitted himself well putting in another epic try saving tackle during a period of intense pressure from the Hammers.
Mark the donkey ellis had sustained his annual calf injury and since the final was in sight was substituted for Andrew "mogs" Morgan a new player for the 4's only joining the club 5 weeks ago having moved up from the valleys, with 4 minutes of game time Mogs was yellow carded for some sort of front row issue which no one could understand, however that now increases his record to 3 matches played, 1 blister, 1 try, 1 yellow card, 1 fight and most importantly one score!
Once again the Mighty 4's were down to 14 men and had to play out the match in vigorous defence eventually winning through 33-15 and the party began, a truley amazing win against the form of hampstead who have been strong all season but who on the semi final day didnt want it as much as the Letchworth 4th XV
Onto the final for saturday 20th at Cheshunt RFC against whgat looks like a Chesham team Kick off at 1.30pm
