Letchworth GC 0 Colchester 79
This week it was announced that the Letchworth club had invested £25000...
...in the Harry Kent groundsman package (Harry Kent is the head groundsman at Twickenham and has taken a keen interest in the Club's pitch improvement scheme, visiting Legends Lane on several occasions) which will have a great effect on pitch improvements over the next few years.
Tractor, cutter scarifier and container will all be arriving in the next few weeks and ex scrum half Digger Gardiner will be taking over as a part time groundsman to upgrade the playing area.
There will also need to be improvements on the playing side as again Legend's yielded to a very strong Colchester team who proved too good at the end of the day for the home side.
They had scored after only a minutes play with a try in the corner by Dan Brennan and never looked back . Again the Letchworth forwards battled hard and achieved parity in large parts of the game but when the ball was worked free outside holes appeared and Colchester took full advantage.
Rampant back row player and man of the match Olly Pickett scored two before half time and James Crozier added the conversions as the visitors led 36/0 at the break.
The second half saw more of the same fare. Legend's troubled the visitors line a few times as skipper Richard Stokes and Kyle Hughes went close but could not get over the whitewash. However Colchester could and it to prove a whitewash of a second half.
Injuries to Lewis Jones and Stokes did not help but DaveHatch played on manfully with a bad back in evidence. Again the spirit was willing as the home side battled to the end but they could not match their counterparts in terms of performance.
They now have two weeks to wait till another hard away game to Old Priorians and there should be some returnees this time to strengthen the back division.
The Wanderers had a great victory over Datchworth 2 s 43/22 on the top pitch with stars of yesteryear Mark Hett, Tim Moynihan, Mark Adams and Darren Spillane all gracing the ranks of this team of Legends.
