Letcombe made hard work of beating an extremely poor Cirencester United side.
With keeper Josh Bourton still recovering from a dislocated finger, Letcombe persuaded former keeper Stuart Game to come out of semi retirement.
Letcombe had the perfect start, when a Jamie Macdonagh shot was handled after 5 minutes, and Adam Pendell converted the resulting penalty. Letcombe completely dominated the first half, but failed to turn their supremacy into goal scoring opportunities. They increased their lead on the stroke of half time when a long range Tom Patten free kick deflected off a defenders head, leaving keeper Colin Buckingham stranded.
Letcombe went further ahead early in the second half, Adam Pendell heading home a Lyle Gifford cross at the back post via the upright. With the game apparently won, Letcombe made three substitutions, and Cirencester scored twice within a minute. Captain Chris Allen beat three players before firing low into the far bottom corner, and then a hopeful punt downfield bounced over the head of onrushing keeper Stuart Game, leaving Tony Hicks to tap the ball into the empty net. Letcombe withstood an anxious last fifteen minutes, although Cirencester defender Jason Edwards was sent off for a lunge at Lyle Gifford. Letcombe were thankful for the three points, but should have won much more easily against winless Cirencester.
Team: Game, Faircloth, de la Coze, Richardson, Kent, Patten, Pendell, Macdonagh, Roberts, Horswell, Gifford.
