Des Williams reports as Wednesday Night's match ends all square at Bassett Road.

Letcombe battled superbly against their high-flying opponents in difficult conditions. Carterton chose to play with the wind in the first half and dominated possession. Mark Threlfall hit the post with a free kick in the 3rd minute, and the visitors had a number of dangerous inswinging corners, but the Letcombe defence were outstanding, with centre backs Sean Webb and Jack Hamblin always prominent. Jack Kennedy hit the bar for Carterton with a header as half-time approached, but the interval arrived with no goals.

Letcombe had their first real chance early in the second half when a corner from Adam Claydon found Jack Hamblin at the far post, but his header went narrowly wide. Ron Johnson had a great chance to give Carterton the lead, but he shot over the bar when well placed. Letcombe had a chance with four minutes remaining when a deflection landed at the feet of Richard Claydon in the Carterton penalty area, but he was unable to control the ball. The best chance of the match fell to Dan Sadler in the last few minutes, but Letcombe keeper Danny Joyce dived to his right to turn the ball round the post and deny Carterton all three points.

Letcombe would probably have settled for a point prior to the match, which ended a recent losing streak. Carterton certainly had the better of the match, but every Letcombe player competed all over the pitch, and it resulted in an unexpected point.
