The Warriors took a while to get up to speed in this game but looked comfortable throughout.
The Warriors looked to have got off to a flying start after great metres by Conner Scrivens and Ellis Pocklington saw cory bennie collect in midfield and race in to score at the corner. He looked to have doubled his tally moments later after a break by Jacob Browne but was ruled to have a foot in touch.
Leyland then became overconfident in their own half, coughing up good possession to Woolston on three occasions but superb defence held the visitors out. Scrivens and matt clegg took Leyland close to the try line and billy bishop shifted the ball out neatly to Adam Watkinson to score in the corner.
The Warriors then had a frustrating period when the final pass just wouldn't stick and they could have added three further scores before a good shift to the left through five pairs of hands saw Bennie get his second try.
The second half started with a tight battle in midfield until Declan Roberts' smart ball saw Clegg burst through the line, throw an outrageous dummy to the supporting Bishop and race under the posts from halfway, with Roberts converting.
When the Warriors moved the ball wide to the right on their own 20 metre line, Browne's draw and pass put Cal Jackson away. He did well to take the ball under pressure and sped away to score under the posts, Roberts again converting.
Woolston went for a short kick off which resulted in a Leyland penalty and Matt Thomas hit the ball at speed to smash the line and score from halfway on his Warriors debut.
The final try of the game came on the back of break from Dom Parkinson, with Scrivens crashing over for a well earned try, converted by Owen Pritchard.
The scoreline doesn't do justice to the physicality of the game but Leyland's line defence was dominant throughout and they scrambled well when needed. A great defensive effort!
