This was the first time that the boys had the advantage of a substitute and as a shortage of players from the opposition they decided to play ten on ten which left the boys with four vital substitutes which filled the lads full of confidence.

The Warriors started the game promising showing their new found confidence in tackling turning the ball over and scoring almost immediately with great teamwork resulting a great first try to Henry Aspey converted by Myles Hemmings.

Culcheth received the ball and Lewis Redfearn on the first tackle drove his opposite number back 10 metres on his own. However Culcheth bounced back with their own try to make the score 6-4 to the young Warriors. With the Warriors retaining possession from the kick off Lewis Redfearn picked the ball up and easily barged his way through five players to gain 60 vital yards, on the back of this the ball was passed around with Will Sharples creating chances everytime he touched the ball, Will Sharples and Myles Hemmings worked up a partnership which resulted in a try for Hemmings.

The lads worked well in defence again with Jordan Ronson, Jack Ambrose and Oli Buchanan proving they went taking a step back. Due to immense defence the warriors received the ball and Jack Ambrose walked all over the opposition to set up George Tighe who spotted a gap in the defence and went for it drawing two players in to pass the ball onto Matthew “Tyson” Allon to barge past everything that got in his path to cross the whitewash for a fine try with Will Sharples converting.

The Warriors again retained the ball on scored two tries in quick succession from Matty Wilkins using his blistering cheetah like pace to run round anything that got in his way with ease to score two very good tries both converted by Myles Hemmings. Half time quickly approached with the lads gaining a precious 28-10 lead.

The lads came out of half time full of confidence with four substitutes to take over tired legs from the first half. Due to an injury before he even got on the pitch Patrick Healy received a nasty blow….. from a WASP!? But he returned to the field determined to make his mark on the game with great support and tackling.

Straight away the other subs had an immediate impact with Ben Warburton smashing anything that crossed his path and Liam Gore ducking, dodging and destroying the opposition to gain a 30 vital metres to become just short of the try line. Great communication from Kieran Clough resulted in Culcheth being stopped from crossing the line.

In return the the lads worked back up the park for George Tighe to cheekily spot his chance and dash down the blindside to score a great try. Immediately after this Matty Wilkins picked the ball up determined to get his hat trick and beat the whole team to score a 70 metre try and wasn’t even out of breath!

To round of the game Jordan Ronson took in a fantastic drive bouncing three players off him and ducking and weaving to set up Myles Hemmings who had great vision and strolled across the try line for his second of the game with George Tighe begging for the conversion which was successful! However Culcheth weren’t done yet and scored another try to end the game.

The final whistle went with the Leyland lads putting in easily the best performance of the season they deserved the 42-20 win. Man of the Match went to Jordan Ronson for an epic game, Most Improved went to George Tighe for an excellent performance which he had been practising in training and Culcheth’s Coach gave their Man of the Match to Matty Wilkins.
