Leyland Warriors V Haydock Warriors

On a day when the lads wore their new kit for the first time there was a sense of pride amongst the team

Once they got onto the pitch though you could be forgiven that they didn’t want to get the new kit dirty as they started very slowly and some sloppy line speed and several missed tackles allowed Haydock to score the first try within the first 5 minutes.

This once again sparked Leyland into life when a neat pass sent Douglas through a gap to score near the posts . The Try was converted by Weston .
However there wasn’t enough time to recover from the effort before a Leyland knock on allowed Haydock to be forst to the ball and they duly scored again that try was also converted . This made the score 6-12 in Haydocks favour . Leyland couldn’t seem to find a way to stop Haydock at times at it was good last ditch tackles that saved Leyland from going behind further .

Somehow Leyland were hanging onto the game and indeed showed some great skill when Wilkins picked the ball up from the base of the scrum and ghosted past 3 defenders with some neat footwork to score under the sticks , Weston again Converting the try .

Half time came and the lads knew it was a poor effort and knew they were lucky to be level at the break .
A new found attitude was evident in the early phases of the second half and with the pressure mounting on the Haydock line Kirkby scored a good close range effort maintaining a good low body position to duck under the defence which went too high . Weston once again reliable with the boot .

After a spell of end to end rugby Leyland were awarded a penalty after Haydock were too keen out of the blocks to get to the Leyland attack , This time O’Neil slotting the penalty home to give Us Daylight at 20-12 up .

Haydock never gave the game up though and seemed to be getting the offloads away in the tackle and did so close to the line allowing them to score a try which was converted .It was now close with only a few mins remaining 20-18 .

With a couple of mins remaining Rob Stack made a break from his own half and prompty rounded the full back with some quick feet and scored out wide . Weston missed the conversion so the final score was 24-18 to the Leyland Warriors . Good close game ..Man of the Match went to Rob Stack for his defensive display and Try and most improved went to Corey Dixon , well done Lads
