Little Hulton played host to fitton hill in a tough armwrestle

Little Hulton Reds were at home again this weekend in the N W mens league against opponents Fitton Hill from Oldham.The game started with a fitton hill kick off and Little Hulton made a hash of the return gifting the ball back to Oldham side inside their own 20, to compound the problem the reds were "pinged" 4 times by the referee so all the first 5 minutes was on Little Hultons line,credit to the reds their defence stood firm and on their first visit to the Oldham sides half a long pass put wing Davy Jones outside his opposite number where he rounded the full back only for the referee to rule out the score for a forward pass.The reds weren't to be denied long when a foster pass sent front rower Joe Lyon plunging thro the Oldham side and open the scoring, Wes Winder duly added the conversion.Was all one way traffic now on Oldham line but a missed tackle on the speedy Oldham stand off and he was gone 50 yards to pull the score back to 6 4 for the reds.Little Hulton was back on their game but the speedy Stand off intercepted 5 yards from his own line to race away and send the fitton hill fullback in again totally against the run of play.Was all hands to the wheel for the Oldham side as their defence was battered eventually the pressure told the ball going out wide from Mike Shirwin to Davy Jones showing his predatory instincts and him again beating the fullback again Winder adding the extras.Leaving us with Little Hulton Reds 12 Fitton Hill 8, with the reds to play down the hill second half.Second half started with nothing in it, Oldham broke the dead lock when the second row broke the Reds defence again going 50 yards to register wide out.Little Hulton knew they had to convert pressure into points this was a dangerous pacey side they was up against, next on score sheet was man of the match Gareth Hessian collecting a clever reverse kick from Winder to go under the posts,Winder again fault less with Boot.Was now like king Canute with the waves, waves of Reds attack to Oldham line,the Oldham side couldn't keep going again Hessian was next to score running out wide to collect a Winder pass and go over in the corner,the conversion was missed on this occasion.Hessian was to complete his hat trick later following up a kick to collect again under the sticks he went, and Winder dont miss kicks in front of the posts score now 22 12 and the reds breathing easier the Oldham side had took a lot of breaking down.They weren't dead yet and the Oldham full back again broke from his own half to touch down this time the extras were added. Big Ross Cahill was stopped just short in left hand corner the ball was swiftly moved to right with fullback Mark Parsons dancing inside 3 Oldham defenders to again put the points difference to 10 for Little Hulton.The Oldham side threw every thing they had at Little Hulton to try pull it back with Rik Fletcher and Kyle Parsons tackling as if the life depended on it.The final score being Little Hulton reds 34 Fitton Hill 18 a flattering score line which at times Little Hulton were under the cosh.Man of the match went to hat trick hero Hessian,2nd place to Lee Foster for his ball distribution from acting half back and 3rd place to hard working running and tackling of center Alan Hargreaves.Next week Little Hulton play hosts to Warrington side Crosfields
