Lightliffe Under 9s produced probably their best collective performance of the season, in their final game of the 2011 season, but fell just short to a strong Bradford and Bingley team in the knockout stages of the Tom Priestley Trophy (the Bradford League U9s Competition).
The visitors showed strength in depth with all 8 players contributing runs as they clocked up a competitive 279 total.
Lightcliffe nevertheless produced excellent performances in the field.
produced a fine run out to add to an earlier catch, supported by keeper Jack Beattie
and George Newton
was again pick of the bowling with figures of 2-8 from his 3 overs. Henry Smith
and Oliver Slater
supported with positive bowling, although for once the rest of the team failed to make inroads against the opposition.
Faced with a stiff task Henry Smith
and Ben Whiteley
set off in positive fashion and Reece Smith
and Beattie tried hard to keep the momentum going. With wickets chipping away at the score, the target always looked challenging.
Credit yet again to the final batting pair. Faced with a mammoth task of scoring 50 runs in only 4 overs, Thomas (19no) and Booth (12no) produced an unbeaten 34 run effort - the top batting partnership of the campaign.
"The standard of play from both sides this evening was the highest seen this year and promises much for the future" concluded the Under 9s manager, Bruce Lunn
