The club's annual gala at the cricket club on Sunday week (8 July) is set to be bigger and better than ever with hundreds expected to flock through the gates.

The popular event, which will once again be free to enter, has a stack of stalls, rides, and games, providing fun and entertainment for all the family.

The gala, which starts at 2pm, will once again be graced by the talented dancers from the nearby Dorothy Stevens School. Pony rides will add some equestrian excellence to proceedings.

Gala goers will get the chance to relax in the splendour of the cricket club pavilion with fantastic teas, succulent scones and a range of home made produce. This is the highlight of the day for many people.

Favourites like the bouncy castle, slides, coconut shy, bottle stall, penalty shoot out, tombola, and golf pitching will once again grace the picturesque ground off Wakefield Road.

There will be cries of ‘house’ as people enjoy games of village bingo.

A well stocked bar will serve beers, lagers and ciders. There will be also be quality ice-creams to relax with as people soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the dancing, singing and sopranos on the lawns.

The basic message of this year’s gala is fun for all the family, in splendid surroundings at competitive prices.

Chairman and Gala co-ordinator Steve Hartley said: “We are hopeful of another fantastic day. We have been working hard to ensure improve on last year’s record day. All we need is the sun to shine and people from the local community to support us. Thankfully we have always been lucky in both respects, and we are really grateful for the support we receive from local people, shops, and businesses.

If anyone can lend a hand in the next few days then feel free to drop me a line on 07803 736959. We have tables to move, fliers to deliver, and tents to erect. We would also be happy to receive any baked cakes or home made produce.

“The gala is one of the focal points of the Lightcliffe summer and I know everyone in the area is eagerly awaiting 8 July. The gates open 2pm”
