Alex now faces a number of major operations and a long recovery process. The incident has united the cricket community in shock at the awful extent of the injuries.

A JustGiving page has been set up and, within hours, donations were pouring in from across the country. The money will be used to support Alex and his young family, as he goes into hospital and faces a period of months off work.
