Damp squib as 15s lose at Woodlands
Lightcliffe 83-5 lost to Woodlands 122-1 by 39 runs
Sunday 29th July 2012
Bradford Cricket League Under 15s South Division
The under 15s were well beaten by 10 men Woodlands thereby allowing there local rivals an opportunity of catching them in the League table.
Heavy pre match showers had made the conditions difficult and less than ideal, but having won the toss and chose to bowl, Lightcliffe will be very disappointed with the performance they put in.
Too many players gave the impression of wishing to be elsewhere, as
Dyson for Woodlands made the visitors pay for dropping him when on 12, with a quick 50 not out.
Having made an breakthrough when Liam Holmes took a good catch from the returning Jordan Pickles, Lightcliffe failed to capitalise as number of other chances went down (non of them easy)and Mo Waddee (36 no) and Addas Mohammed (20) maintained Woodlands tempo leaving the Lightcliffe bowling figures - their strength this season - looking decidely second rate.
Kieran Collins did his best as a late stand-in wicket keeper but
missing 5 regulars players due to holiday commitments, the total always looked challenging requiring some big innings.
Unfortunately things went from bad to worse early on with the batting. Captain Liam Collins was bowled third ball and Pickles was run out also without scoring.
Louis Barker (12) produced some good shots in an attempt to drag Cliffe back into the game and then Rhys Thomas (18) and 12 year old Will Smith (32) spent most of the innings fighting for a lost cause as the run rate lengthened. Smith in particular on his batting debut for the 15s looked the part, albeit being unable to play the sort of shots required to rescue this game.
The next two matches will define the season - the semi-final of the Cup on Monday evening, followed by the return Woodlands fixture on 12th August.
