A sublime maiden 50 from Jordan Pickles was the highlight of Lightcliffe seconds narrow defeat to Pudsey Congs.

Pickles’ half century was laced with delightful drives and well crafted cuts as the hosts chased Congs competitive total of 210.

Other players to star in the run chase included David Knight with a classically well drilled 46, James Horne with 20 and useful flurries from Jake Broadbent and Chrissy Dyer.

Alas as it was not to be, despite the brave effort the valiant run chase fell just 11 runs short.

Earlier the wickets had been shared between Marcus Kelly, who is having a fine season,
James Horne and Max Gardner. The fielding was pretty good with Kelly snaring a fantastic caught and bowled.

The season moves on apace and this weekend the team had to Low Moor to face table topping Woodlands.

After the game Pickles said: “Absolutely thrilled with my half century but gutted we didn’t win. I was down afterwards but a couple of pints with grandad Trevor soon cheered me up. We are playing some good stuff, another win is just round the corner. A special mention to Knighty who drilled some stunning shots.”
