Lightcliffe’s Bradford u13s staged a remarkable comeback to overcome a strong Pudsey side in their latest league fixture containing numerous twists and turns.
Early wickets for Dylan Hill and a Tom Richardson run-out had given Lightcliffe a strong start but it was when match winners Toby Morley and Sam Carrick bowled – each claiming 3 wickets that the home side staked their claim for supremacy.
Tom Shaw was not to be ignored with 2 catches and a wicket with his only delivery, to restrict the visitors to 71.
Saints had other ideas however about rolling over however.
Lightcliffe were stunned as Will Leach went first ball, his partner Joe Pyrah also failed to score and the top 6 batsmen could only muster 5 runs off the bat in aggregate. Pudsey’s Allinson’s 5-9 bowling stats and the home side’s 22-6 score looked a sorry tale.
Those in the know however were aware of batting depth in this team and with 60% of the innings in which to construct a response some positives remained.
Carrick (25no) and Morley (11) responded with excellence, judging shots and good communication in their 42 partnership, marred only by a single poor call to run out the latter, but at a point when Lightcliffe were in the ascendancy.
The final 10 runs came in contrasting fashion – Dylan Hill’s 2 bal cameo plus a hefty 5 overthrows to complete an enthralling win.
