Lightcliffe u13s beat Copley in ECB cup
U13s clear winners against Copley in the evening gloom at Greetland
Lightcliffe u13s produced a dominant batting performance against Copley, in the ECB national u13s cup. Batting first, at neutral venue Greetland, Lightcliffe recovered from the early loss of Toby Morley with William Leach accelerating to his 30 while Joe Pyrah worked the ball around. The loss of Dylan Hill to a skied mishit was a temporary blip as Finlay Hill made a quickfire 23 before having to retire hurt having struck the ball onto his own foot and Joe Pyrah reached his own 30. Ben Ward, in power mode, struck 30 off only 14 balls and with Curtis Taylor and Sam Carrick adding late boundaries the team closed on 151 for 2. In reply Copley lost and early wicket to a run out and after a few tight overs from Lightcliffe were never thereafter in the hunt. Lightcliffe shuffled their bowling pack as the evening dew and the gathering gloom made life increasingly difficult for all. Sam Carrick picked up a wicket and Curtis Taylor two although Ben Smith for Copley appeared to be seeing the ball better than most as he struck 30 in only 12 balls. In the interests of safety and with the match decided the game was brought to a close a few overs early with Copley 88 for 4. An excellent start, Bradford & Bingley next in line.
