Holbrook beat Reserves
Reserves beaten despite playing well.
The Reserves took on Holbrook Sports in a game that would see a victory move the winning side up to 7th place in the table. Both teams had won their last games and so a tight contest was forecast.
Holbrook almost caught Linby sleeping with the very first move of the game when Anderson-Raymond was put through on goal only to blaze his shot high and wide of the target. The warning signs were there for Linby and Sports continued with their long-ball over the top tactics. Within 30mins this had reaped rewards as Holbrook went into a 2 goal lead with a couple of well taken efforts.
Aiden Butler and Charlie Miller looked lively up front for Linby and each time the ball went forward chances were created.
Linby got themselves back into the game before half time when a great move from defense to attack saw Kieran Orange smash a terrific shot into the top right corner.
Half-time: Linby Reserves 1-2 Holbrook Sports Reserves
The next goal would be vital in settling the outcome of this game and Linby came out all guns blazing. They laid siege to the Sports goal but despite some great play they just couldn't find the goal they deserved. Holbrook made use of the space left by Linby at the back and grabbed a coupe of quick break away goals to move the score to 4-1. Linby refused to give up hope of taking something from the game and thought they should have had a couple of penalties when firstly Aiden Bulter was bundled over in the box and soon after Alex Dodd was felled by his marker when racing clear but unfortunately neither were spotted by the referee who to be fair wasn't helped by his linesman. Aiden Butler looked bound to score after blocking a clearance from the Sports keeper deep in his area, but such was the spin on the ball it moved it out of his path and away to safety.
Full-time: Linby Reserves 1-4 Holbrook Sports Reserves
Strange game this. Whilst the scoreline suggests that Linby were well beaten the truth is that we spent huge periods of time in the opponents final third but just couldn't find the goals that our play deserved.
During the course of the season we will play worse than this and take all three points.
We'll learn from the experience, move on and continue to believe in our style of football knowing that we'll be better footballers for it long term.
