Danny George has insisted Lincoln Moorlands Railway will fight tooth and nail to ensure they are compensated for the incorrect 112-day suspension of former player and captain Jack Cotton.
Cotton, who now plays for neighbouring Lincoln United in the Evo-Stik League Division One (South), was subject to the lengthy ban last October after missing ten matches through suspension in the 2010/11 season, writes Beren Cross.
New evidence has clouded the validity of the Cotton case since a similar suspension was administered at Scarborough Athletic.
"Scarborough Athletic faced an identical situation (to Cotton's) this season, with their top scorer (Ryan Blott)," revealed Moors joint-manager Danny George.
"However, with their size and financial clout, they were able to employ a solicitor to fight their case.
"He ultimately proved the FA and the league's ruling was farcical.
"The rule was written incorrectly as a ten-game trigger for the 128-day ban, when actually they meant 11."
The Northern Counties East League Premier Division club, who are without a fixture this weekend, are now putting together their own case, which will be presented to the FA and the league to appeal for compensation.
When the club's former captain began his suspension back in October, he was granted leave to join the Whites to retain match sharpness.
His exit soon triggered a well-publicised exodus at Newark Road, which soon resulted in a downturn of form that left Moorlands without a league win between September 15 2011, and January 6 this year.
"We are seeking compensation from the league, who have punished Jack and the club on the grounds that we violated a rule which wasn't enforceable," said George.
"We took 13 points from our first 11 games of the season with Jack, and then just one point from our next 11 without him. That statistic just says it all.
"The whole situation has hurt us a lot."
On the pitch, the Moors went down 3-1 at promotion-chasing Scarborough last Saturday.
Ironically, the player at the centre of their own suspension saga, Blott, scored twice. Luke Forbes scored a late consolation for Moorlands.
