Moorlands Secretary Graham Peck has expressed his concern at the standard of refereeing this season. His concerns come after last weeks defeat at Scarborough where two decisions proved to be instrumental in the defeat
"The first decision was the penalty decision which was poor to say the least as the referee saw nothing but the Assistant flagged. The referee and assistant should beseeing the same thing. Thesending off of david Hone was another poor decision as he turned his back as the ball hit him on the upper arm. To be honest in agame that saw five yellows and a red there was only onechallenge that was worthyof a card. Some referees think they are in a competition to see how many cards they can issue. We accept that on field discipline has got to be dealt with but dishing out cards for the most inocuous things is not the way to deal with with it. The standard of refereeing has got to improve. The policy of fast-tracking young referees does not work as they are reaching levels of football they cannot deal with as they are too young and inexperienced.
As a former referee myself I try to be fair and constructive but I am seeing poor big decisions week in week out and we get hauled up for having a poor diciplinary record. Players will get frustrated when they dont know how a referee is going to deal with situations.
The whole structure of refereeing needs to be looked at with a view of improving standards and only then will discipline be dealt with"
