We look back to 2004/05season with pride. Lincoln United's first season in Unibond Premier Division. Next week we will look back to 1992/93.

The new season began with a County Cup win over Spalding United. Gary Bull was replaced on 90 minutes by Ian Williams and Willo banged in an extra-time hat-trick.

We knew it was going to be tough and August began with three one goals defeats.

The first Saturday of September brought a 3-2 victory over Workington, Gary Bull and Charlie Trout(2) were the scorers.

September brought three wins and two draws, as did October as the side established itself at the higher level. November, traditionally a bad month for Lincoln United was poor, the only win coming at Bishop Auckland at the end of the month. December was worse all three games ending in defeat.

Manager John Wilkinson, signed Ben Dixon from Whitby Town on New Years Eve to add some quality and experience.

January and February saw our form return and February saw four wins which meant we could enjoy the run-in.

Injuries had left us short up-front so Ben Dixon went to the left of midfield and Gary Walters joined Gary Bull up-front. Walters bagged a hat-trick at Bamber Bridge in a 3-2 win and repeated the feat at home to Marine in a 41- win the following Saturday.

The side over the season was Nick Conroy in goal, the full-backs were mainly Ian Wilkins, Jon Hawley(who played mainly on the right of midfield), Ben Brown and Paul Bartle. Brown moved to centre half later in the season to partner our rock, Mark Hone. Joby Gowshall and Danny George also played centre-backs but Gowshall's season was cut short by injury early in November.

Skipper, Brendan McDaid was the base of the midfield and he was aided by Jason Minett, Paul Miller, Dave Gilbert and Charlie Trout.

We started the season with Gary Bull and Jamie Clarke up front but Ian Williams and Matt Roche replaced Clarke in September.

We had a little run in the FA Cup winning 1-0 at Norton United thanks to a Gary Bull goal and playing with 10 men for most of the game after Gowshall was sent-off in the middle of the first half.

Winsford were beaten 5-0 at home with Bull bagging a hat-trick and getting nominated for the FA player of the round.

Unfortunately we went out despite a great performance to Hyde United, our league leaders.

Our final position of 14th is still the highest the club has ever finished.
