Football is full of ups and downs. Saturday's performance against Gainsborough was at the lower end of the scale.

Last night's victory at Moorlands restored the confidence of the team as they played at a higher level writes Peter Hayward.

The return of Glynn Cotton and the introduction of Kallum Smith and Connor Smythe made all the difference.

Cotton is playmaker-in-chief who craves the ball throughout the 90 minutes.

Smith is a very quick and skilful midfielder who is comfortable in possession.

Smythe looked rock steady and has a sweet left foot.

I counted 16 chances to two in favour of the Whites with three being taken.

A beautiful cross-field ball from Callum Ward found Kallum Smith.
He guided a through pass to Liam Richardson who dispatched the ball beyond the keeper with aplomb to give the Whites a 1-0 lead on 49 minutes.

Seconds later a super save by Robert Peet from Simon Mowbray enabled the Whites to launch another attack.

George Asplin forced his way through the defence and sent an immaculate left foot lob over Craig Turner in goal.

Five minutes later, Bruno Holden cut in from the left, beat two men and shot decisively past the keeper for a well-deserved goal following all the work he had put in previously.

This gave the Whites their second win of pre-season and their first clean sheet.

Lots of positives especially Sean Wright's outstanding performance at full back where he never missed a header and was a constant threat in attack on the right flank.

I liked the spirit and attitude shown by everyone. It contrasted to Saturday's rather pedestrian effort. I know the Gaffer was impressed tonight and I will post his thoughts on the website shortly.

Well done lads.
