The First Round Proper of the FA Cup will be broadcast live on national TV on Monday night and I for one applaud the decision, writes John Wilkinson.

We have been in that draw on two memorable occasions, firstly in 1991 and the again in 1997.

I still think Allen Crombie's side didn't get the credit they deserved at the time for their tremendous achievement. They were a Central Midlands League side competing at the 10th level of English Football. Victory at Leek Town took us into the draw for the First Round and in those days it was a secret affair in the main, those who could get round a radio at work might have been lucky enough to her the draw but most of us found out via a phone call or the later edition of the Echo.

In 1997 it was worse as far as I was concerned. Having won at Runcorn, Ged Creane and myself were loading kit on the Coach when the draw was being made just minutes after the victory. We walked into Runcorn;s bar with the draw already made.

It is far better for the clubs who have made it through to savour their success for a couple of days before the draw is made and I am pleased for those sides that they can get together on Monday Evening and enjoy another "moment" they will never forget.

Good Luck Norton United from our league.
