HARROWBY UNITED 1 LINCOLN UNITED 4

The Whites fought back after going 1-0 at half time to secure a 4-1 win over a battling Harrowby United outfit last night writes Peter Hayward.

A break from defence saw the home side snatch the lead on half time but a rocket of a free kick from Glynn Cotton levelled proceedings just after the break.

Lewis Chambers added two more before striker Bruno Holden hit a fourth near the end.

Before the match, the Gaffer told me that Harrowby would be wanting to make an impression and that it was up to the Whites to show the right attitude and commitment.

He was right on both counts. All credit to Harrowby for a first half performance that didn't let the Whites settle.

They worked very hard and pressed throughout the half. If the Whites work looking for another good workout, they certainly got one.

With seven players missing through injury or personal commitments, the Whites tried to keep me the ball on the deck.

This proved difficult on a bouncy pitch against an opposition who were keen to show their fighting spirit.

Just before half time, Harrowby took the lead through striker Shaw although there could have been a hatful of goals at both ends.

A change of formation to 4-4-2 and the introduction of young George Asplin on the right wing added the spark that was missing from the first half performance.

The Whites wore down the opposition and frequent raids down both wings by George, Sam, Liam and Sean put pressure on the home team.

In the 49th minute, Glynn Cotton hammered home a 25 yard screamer of a free kick.

I had a bird's eye view of the strike and I am not surprised the keeper was left standing helpless on his line.

The hard- working Lewis Chambers bagged two before Bruno hammered the fourth two minutes from time.

The Gaffer's philosophy is amied at playing the ball on the ground through the units.

This will take time to develop as the players come to terms with this new system.

There were some very encouraging signs last night that the lads are beginning to get to grips with this style of play.

Robert in goal did not kick one ball downfield out of his hands in the first half. This is encouraging.

As the squad grows in confidence and the players get to know each other's game there is likely to be a lot more building-up from the back and playing the ball to feet.

It is something we are not used to seeing a great deal of and the Gaffer must be applauded for instilling this new philosophy into his players.
