Lincoln United's Sean Wright has been given the go-ahead to resume his playing career following a second opinion on a medical condition.

Last September's news to stop playing came as a devastating blow to the 26-year-old who has made over 300 appearances for the Ashby Avenue outfit over the last 10 years, having progressed through the ranks to the first team.

Now the popular defender can lace up his boots once more and hopefully help the Whites climb clear of a potential battle against relegation.

Wright said: “I was absolutely buzzing when I was told the news. It was very unexpected and it all happened very quickly.

“Luke Treadwell, our sports therapist at the club, had a lot to do with it and I am sure other people were involved in organising a second opinion.

“To be honest I expected the first opinion to be confirmed that I had to stop playing.
“This time the sports cardiologist told me there was only a 0.5 per cent of anything happening if I played again and was informed that there was no reason why I shouldn't continue to play.

“ Originally I had to change my job as a scaffolder as I was told to steer clear of heavy lifting.

“In fact I had to change my lifestyle.

“Needless to say my wife, family and friends had their minds put at ease with the news.
“As soon as I heard I rang the 'gaffer' (Whites' boss, Sam Wilkinson).

“I now need to get match fit again.

“Being on the sidelines working under Sam and 'Reddo' (Stuart Reddington) really opened my eyes at how much work goes on at the club.

“I can't wait to start playing and focus on getting the right results for the team.”
United boss, Sam Wilkinson said: ”Sean getting the all clear from the specialist was a massive boost, not just to me but to everyone at the club.

“It was a lift we all needed as there has been a lot of negativity around the club because of recent results so we all needed this.

“It's been a really tough season for a number of reasons and missing Wrighty from day one is one of the reasons why it has been so tough.

“So it's a timely lift and all the players are delighted to have him back.

“We have missed him on the pitch and in the changing room.

“He has kept himself reasonably fit and in decent shape and has still trained every week.

“It will take a few games to get back to match fitness so we might have to be a bit patient with him.

“He will be in the squad on Saturday.

“We have missed him so much and hopefully he can have a big impact on the rest of the season.

“He is such a talented footballer in every way.

“He can mix it with his aerial and physical battles but he is also so gifted on the ball that he could play anywhere on the pitch and do it very well.”

This Saturday they welcome rock-bottom Gresley FC to the Sun Hat Villas who trail the Whites by six points, kick off 3pm.
