15 MINUTE BLITZ HITS UNITED
On a night of high winds we witnessed a high tempo game and whilst both teams contributed to a great game it was the visitors whose contribution reaped the rewards.
It has to be said that there were some soft goals in the game but Ilkeston with Gary Ricketts, Daryll Thomas and Will McCall leading the charge were more that deserving winners.
United battled gamely and unlike their defeat in the FA Cup there was no tame retreat here we were beaten by a better side.
We started brightly and looked to pose a threat which we have done in all our games but on conceding a soft 26th minute goal we crumbled briefly. Brief it might have been but it led to three goals in 14 minutes and just about meant the game was up.
Nigel Wallace thought the ball had gone out of play and his hesitation led to DARREN CASKEY scoring the opening goal.
A minute later following a foul by Stuart Reddington which saw him pick up a yellow card led to the penalty from which CASKEY scored.
United were rocking at this point and had to dig in to survive a rampant Ilkeston. Just when it looked as if we had settled there was a further set-back when Daryll Thomas scored following some weak defending.
United rallied and when a blocked shot fell to Jordan Hempenstall he made no mistake with a sharp right foot volley.
That was in the 43rd minute and almost immediately it could have been 3-2 a left-wing cross from Kallum Smith looked destined for Brendan McDaid's head and a certain goal but Chris Funnell got no call and his feint touch took the ball away from the Whites' skipper.
Then right on half time a trip wide in the penalty area, again from Reddington which saw CASKEY complete his hat-trick from the spot.
There were no changes after the break but United battled gamely. They were often stretched defensively and couldn't keep posession long enough but they did manage to get a life-line in the 64th minute when substitute Alex Troughton pressured Gary Ricketts into scoring an own goal.
We were lifted and it would have been amazing had we turned this round but it was not to be. Ilkeston kept coming and in the 78th minute Reddington left the field, sent-off following a second yellow card. With him went any slim chance of a revival and in the 82nd minute the best goal of the night came when a corner was cleared some twnety five-thirty yards out to left-back Ryan Wilson who capped the night with a thunderous drive into the far top corner.
The win took Ilkeston into third spot in the league.
Kevin Wilson, Ilkeston's Manager said,"We had this down as our hardest fixture yet as we know what United are all about. Our front three were in great form tonight which hasn't always been the case but we kept driving forward and Lincoln were game and kept going."

allen crombie - 1 year agoheads up lads, we were beaten by a better team on the night. terry, darren and the rest off the staff, including all the players youve all been fantastic so far and a real credit to the football club, from myself and all the board members.
