UNDER 18s WIN OPENING LEAGUE FIXTURE
United travelled to one of the favourites for Silverware in the shape of Cleethorpes Town and came back with all three points.
It was a determined display against a good side.
It was tense throughout but United held a lead for most of the game after scoring in 8 minutes through Ben Dazell following a Clayton Wilkinson free kick. The two central midfielders giving United the start they needed.
Cleethorpes were lively and Jack Gibson made a smart save to keep the Whites level.
At the other end Archie Parry was causing havoc, supported well by Christov Pissi (pictured).
We had two good chances before the interval to increase the lead, the home keeper saved well from Kyle Bellamy and Andy Janssen headed narrowly wide.
Cleethorpes started the second half well and United marshalled by centre-backs Jack Barnsdale and Lewis Marsh had to be on their toes.
It was Marsh who increased the Whites' lead after 58 minutes. A short corner was played back by Janssen to Wilkinson, he floated a cross which saw Marsh poke the ball home from close range.
It was a game of fine margins and Cleethorpes pressed the Whites back.
However Pissi was a constant threat on the break for the Whites.
Gibson made an error in United's goal, which was unfortunate for the lad as he had been impeccable throughout.
We lost Janssen and Liam Golton through injury just before Town pulled a goal back with 8 minutes remaining.
Having only two substitutes it was a problem when we lost another through injury as Dazell limped off.
We battled to the end and then on the break with 2 minutes remaining Pissi burst clear on the left, he pulled the ball back for Owen Pickerskill who squared it back for Pissi to slam his left-foot shot into the top corner to seal the victory.
