WHITES NO APRIL FOOLS
Gaols for Conner Robinson, Josh Nichol & Matt Cotton saw the Whites at home at Gresley.
United made a second away trip of the week still smarting from the disaster in the first one. March had ended badly so the Whites were keen to have no repeat on April Fools Day.
This was the scrappiest of games with plenty of endeavour but little quality, save to brilliant moments which led to goals and some outstanding defending.
Gresley will feel aggrieved that they didn't win but how many times have we felt like that this season. We rolled our sleeves up and battled against the conditions and the famous Gresley slope.
In the end the difference might well have been two moments of class, the first came in the 16th minute when Kallum Smith crossed with the Gresley defenders looking well set, however Conner Robinson nipped in front of the front man lifted the ball over his attempted tackle and smashed home in style.
The second came in the 89th minute when Rob Norris fed Matt Cotton, he had a bit to do but feinted one and then inside before finding the bottom corner with a great finish.
In between those two goals were a goal crafted out of the honest endeavour of Josh Nichol to put the Whites two up in the 24th minute and Leandro Browne replying for the home side two minutes later.
In order to achieve their win it was a great performance from the back four with bot full backs, Callum Ward and Luke Hornsey tireless in the United cause. Sean Wright and James Blunden were also in top form as the Whites battled away.
From the football played at Stocksbridge ten days before this game we have picked up nine points from a possible twelve. With six remaining United will have to match that , you would think. However we can only take one game at a time and that means we must take care of business on Tuesday evening when Loughborough Dynamo visit the Sun Hat Villas Stadium.
Luke Hornsey, Sean Wright, James Blunden, Callum Ward
Ben Fairclough (Matt Cotton), Danny Brooks, Rob Norris, Kallum Smith
Conner Robinson (Sean Cann), Josh Nichol.
