Magnificent Whites Batter Brigg

A thrilling 3-0 victory at Brigg Town on Easter Monday ensured Lincoln United’s place in next season’s Evo-Stick Division One (South) League writes Peter Hayward.

Goals by Danny Brooks, Sean Cann and Kern Miller gave the Whites all three points in what was a must win match for the visitors in their battle against relegation.

After their disappointing loss to Newcastle Town on Saturday boss Dave Frecklington brought in Sean Cann up front and went for the win.
The move paid off as right from the start Cann proved the danger man with his tantalising runs and turn of pace.
After seven minutes the Whites’ striker saw his left foot shot cleared off the line.

A minute later Danny ‘Smashball’ Brooks lined up to take a 25 yard free kick which he duly hammered through the Brigg wall and into the net to make it 1-0.

It was no more than Dave Frecklington’s team deserved.
The first half continued as it started. The Whites piled on the pressure and gave the Brigg defence plenty to think about.

Richardson and Simmons combined well down the left, the back three of McDaid, Miller and Brown were in no mood to let anyone get past them and striker Holden worked tirelessly up front.

The Whites took their well-deserved 1-0 lead into the break with the knowledge that more goals were required to make victory a certainty.
Dave Frecklington and his management team must have told them to go for it in the second half. The players followed his instructions to the letter.

Brooks put Cann through who steered his strike past the stranded Brigg keeper to make it 2-0.

Kern Miller then decided to join the party like he had done on Saturday against Newcastle and rose majestically to head home a Danny Brooks’ corner to put the result beyond doubt.

Two excellent one handed saves by Robert Peet prevented Brigg from getting on the score sheet.
It was a victory to savour by the travelling Whites’ fans. A feeling of relief and pride in an excellent all round performance was shown by the Lincoln faithful.

Dave Frecklington said: “We were absolutely superb today. I am proud of our performance and the way we kept a clean sheet.
“We want to finish our season on a high this Saturday and put on a show for our brilliant fans.”
