Whites can look forward to next season with renewed optimism
Lincoln United ended the campaign with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of a very skilful Mickleover Sports side who deservedly go into next week’s play offs writes Peter Hayward.
A crowd of just over 200 saw the Whites go down to strikes in each half which left them in 17th place in the league, six points ahead of bottom club Kidsgrove Athletic.
However it was the magnificent 3-0 victory at Brigg Town on Easter Monday which ensured Dave Freckilngton’s side would once again be competing at this level next season.
The Whites’ boss said: “The players deserve special praise for the way they approached that game in what was a much-win match.
“The pressure was on but we had good numbers from Lincoln and we all wanted to put on a performance that the supporters deserved and I think they got that.
“We were solid throughout and we also looked like scoring every time we broke on the counter.
“To get the three points when we needed them the most shows a great amount of sheer determination and togetherness, which to be honest has been there all season.
“What this season has done is test us in every way possible.
“The desire is to do better as a group.
“Everyone fights for every ball and every point. If we can add four or five players to our current squad in the right areas we can improve and be a much better outfit next season.”
This has been a challenging season for all concerned. Over the past few weeks we have seen the team battle against relegation.
But they won the fight and can now look forward to recovering and then rebuilding ready for the next campaign.
Off the pitch the support and work by everyone behind the scenes has been magnificent.
That’s what makes Lincoln United a great club to be associated with.
Congratulations to skipper Andy Toyne(pictured) for lifting the Supporters’ Player of the Year Trophy.
