The lions latest development game in preperation for the Welsh super cup, came in the form of Reading F.C Academy. As the LITC side will be competing in wales in two tournaments one eleven-a-side and one eight-a-side, it was an ideal opportunity for us to play eight v eight against an elite Championship side.
The first quarter, Reading started sharply and dominated posession, but the hard working lions pressured and held their defensive shape well, With Nathan Lunness marshalling the side from the back and endless running from Brandon Pude up top. The home side made the break through after twelve minutes with a close range finish after a number of interchanging passes. Dan Burdock, Olly cox and Brandon Pude engineered the lions best attack with the latter narrowly putting his effort wide. The royals then ended the quarter scoring another brace.
During the interval both sides made a number of changes, the home side whom where so comfortable on the ball continued how they left off and had the bulk of the ball, the impressive James hams and Luke nulty continuously tried to build the Lions attacks from the back with a variety of passes. Another three goals where scored by the Academy side in this period, but some excellent shot stopping by Gabriel in the lions Goal kept the scoreline down.
With a mountain to climb to retrieve the scoreline, what was impressive was that no heads dropped, nobobdy gave up and the lions continued to press the ball and try to express themselves when they had it.William Daykin played a well weighted pass into samii pollard-crane who laid off to Jayden Englefield whos effort just looped over the crossbar, Reading consistently peppered the Lions Goal with Shots but Nathan Birks was on form pulling off some top saves. After sixty minutes of play the score was 9-0 to Reading.
The final quarter The lions where rewarded for all their hard work with a goal scored by Harvey Richardson after a neat bit of skill by Jayden in the area to set him up for a well taken finish. Reading rounded the night off with a couple more goals to finish the game 11-1.
Result a side, im sure the Lions can use this evening as a Benchmark to see the standards required to get to the top both technically and physically.
