Lismore Vie for Top Award in Aviva Community Competition.

Lismore RFC, a small community rugby club based in South Edinburgh, have been offered a coveted spot in the annual Aviva Community Fund grant competition.

Every year, more than 400 charities and community organisations from every corner of the UK enter the prestigious Aviva Community Fund competition, in the hopes of receiving funding for community projects throughout the UK. This year, Lismore RFC has been accepted into the voting round, concreting their place in a long hard fight to the final, which which will be judged between May 30th, when voting closes, and the official winners announcement, which will take place on June 29th, 2015.

Lismore RFC are a small rugby charity located at Inch Park in South Edinburgh. Lismore uses rugby-based curriculum to deliver a large array of programmes to more than 2,700 students located in the areas of Gilmerton, Inch Park, and Liberton. These programmes include food and healthy eating initiatives, emotional support and counseling, health and wellness programmes, active lifestyle programmes and educational initiatives that take place in cooperation with local schools.

Currently, Lismore RFC deliver their rugby-based curriculum in seven primary schools and two high schools, operating entirely on behalf of one full-time paid Developmental Officer, a Modern Apprentice, and the assistance of a voluntary staff. In the last two years, Lismore RFC have seen massive growth in their programmes, calling for an increase in staff, as well as an increase in funds to meet the needs of it’s programme participants. In addition to their work within the school, Lismore RFC also independently operates several community programmes, including a mini rugby programme, a women’s U15 programme, boys’ U16 programme, a women’s senior team, and two men’s senior teams. 


Lismore RFC seeks to secure one of the coveted £25,000 grants from the Aviva Community Fund, in order to meet the needs of the clubs growth within the community. In order to secure the grant, Lismore RFC is seeking members of the community to vote for them by visiting www.community-fund.aviva.co.uk and registering to vote.
Voting is open from Friday, 01 May to Saturday, 30th May. Once voting has closed, the top 16 recipients will be entered into a final “judging round”, the final winners being announced on June 29th, 2015. Each voter is given 10 votes upon registration to use as they wish.
