Rugby finally beat the weather as matches between Littleborough and Burnley Rugby gave us sparkling rugby in the most turgid of autumn conditions.

We kick off with the Littleborough Under 12's who welcomed a under strength Burnley team to a very wet Rakewood.

The home side showed their sportsmanship with a number of players taking turns to 'play for Burnley' to allow even numbers and to give everyone a good game.

Despite the wet conditions there were some good ball handling and hard running resulting in the home side going two tries up and dominating the early game.

The combined Burnley/Littleborough opposition slowly came back into the game and with a combination of some sloppy play and lack of concentration suddenly saw the score line read 3-2 to the visitors.

With the weather not easing Boro upped the ante and continued to try and play passing rugby but often being pegged back by a Burnley side keen on kicking the ball to release pressure.

The teams traded tries before Boro eventually made the game safe in the closing stages running out 6-4 winners.

Well done to Man of the Match, Zak Brady and also to Tyler Brock for winning the coaches award.

A special thanks also goes out to AEC Ltd, for sponsoring the under 12's new kit this season.

Another team victorious on home soil was the Littleborough Under 11's as they beat neighbouring Burnley Under 11's 12-8.

The score not represents the hard work and game plan execution put in by the Littleborough boys and girls but also a high drama entertaining contest, considering the difficulties both teams were faced with: rain, slippery greasy conditions and unfortunate stoppages in play due to injuries.

Heading into the last 10 minutes of the game and with the score showing as 8 a piece, the neighbouring Lancashire side really felt our presence.

Not once after the restart did the visitors even venture into the Boro half. Littleborough's under 11's carried on forward, closed the spaces, defended well, and scored 4 scorchers! That’s an average of a try every 2.5 minutes!

Against a good side and physically bigger players, that’s some electric yet ruthless rugby of the highest quality.

Littleborough Under 9's also lit up a wet and miserly Rakewood as they went up against Burnley. The game was played in great spirits considering the conditions with plenty of tries to warm those hardy supporters. Strong running with ball in hand and great support play gave Boro the platform of which to express themselves from, which was very pleasing from a coaches perspective.

Special mentions this week goes to Declan Lever for his efforts in defence and his sportsmanship in playing for Burnley amongst a few other of lads. Lewis Bracegirdle was chosen as man of the match by the visiting coach for his big bulldozing runs which led to 2 tries.

Lewis wasn't the only under 9 to find the fine white wash twice as Jack Ashworth, Lewis Wales and Aden Kolbuck all helped themselves to a brace. While Dexter Macro-smith, Ollie Fletcher and Matthew Makinson all maintained their scoring form with a try a piece.

Making the short trip to Bolton this weekend Littleborough Under 13's had a tough ask at an always trick venue. Sunday was no different as Boro sank to a 25-35 defeat in a game riddled with frustration and chaos. Players and coaches of both sides struggled to adapt to the the referee's interpretation of the laws and his decision making.

Brody Baxter once more stood out for the visitors with some crunching tackles while Riley Keegan gained honourable praise for his tireless supporting lines, some of which lead to tries for his side. Another special mention to new boy Asahad Nawaz scoring a great try in only his second game.

While in Cheshire, the Under 15’s continued their impreesive start to the season with another big scalp away from home. This weeks victim was Sandbach as they were put to a 15 points to 29 defeat at the hands of Littleborough.

In our final piece of action, Littleborough U10's had an excellent turn out of players on a wet cold Sunday morning as they also played host to Burnley. Both sides played some entertaining rugby with Harry Baron, Ryan Baxendale and Lewis Culpitt all taking the ball forward enthusiastically.

Leading the way with the defensive effort was Jessica Smith and Sam Stafford as they allowed her team mates Mason Hoyle and Leo Clegg to string the play and had Burnley on the back foot. The home side coaches were pleased to see everyone playing with smiles on their faces in atrocious conditions and hope they continue to take this spirit with them throughout the season.
