Our Story So Far... June 2012 - December 2014

By Littletown Cricket Club
An overgrown mess and a dilapadtaed clubhouse... Could we achieve the unthinkable and bring back this cricket club? Have a look at our story so far...
Could this work? Run down, tired, packed full of rubbish, hard work ahead...
A wet and rainy day in 2012 as work was really just getting started, check out the length of some of the grass...
Originally knee height this is what we were looking at after about 4 cuts!!!!!
Grass had to be moved... Unfortunately, all by hand, rakes, pulling dumpy bags and wheel barrows...
Kenny (left) and Paul (Right) carry on the graft...
An overgrown mess that we had to look past to see the tremendous potential this beautiful little gorund had...
Turf cutting... Turf came up, new loam and seed went down, prayers were said for a decent winter (prayers weren't answered), every bit of turf removed and rebuilt as a boundary wall thanks to head wall builder (Kenny Riley) and support...
Taken late Sept 2012, the grass was down, the new square being laid, the outfiled bumpy, the clubhouse still full, no seating, no plaster, no paint, winding down for the lonnnnng winter of 2012/13.
'The Cricketer' magazine had picked up on our unique story... Published Nov 2012
Dreaming of rising from the ashes... 3rd XI Captian Tom Bright pictured Nov 2012
Winter 2012/2013 was not very kind to the cause and reulted in work being delayed on outfield and lack of grass growth/standing water on newly laid square all winter...
Back to work - Jan 2013, now officlayy a club, nets had begun but the hard work ahead was just ramping up... The square was flooded, the oufield boggy, race against time for the start of the season...
Thanks to Sir James Knott Trust we replaced the old burned down tea room with a shrewd purchase on ebay of the former training facility...
The poor winter weather meant hours of work on square...
Distinct lack of green was evident at the end of March 2013 having started to dry out far too quickly...
Work going on renovating clubhouse, plastering done, painted outside, bench seatsing planned, painting planned and the start of a nice picket fence...
A unique shot of ''Kenny' Wall'' built from the remanents of the old turf where the new square lies
Amazing what a bit of colour can do...
Add a splash of red, some new glass in broken windows, we are getting there (April 2013)
Natwest Cricket Force 2013... The Sunderland Echo featured our unique story...
There was work to be done as part of Natwest Cricket Force 2013, a make over and paint job of our kitchen/tuck shop/tea room...
Natwest Crcket Force 2013 - Freshly plastered and bench seating getting ready to go in both Home & Away Dressing rooms - finally the mess inside had been cleared...
A few coats of paint and we were in business...
Dave Chamley's hard work starting to pay off, superb craftmans skills putting up our new benches/walls have hadtheir first coat of paint...
Benches to be painted Red, Coat Hooks to be installed, changing rooms coming together...
In the meantime, s sponsor had been secured (Stirks Butchers - who would provide teas) and playing shirts/jumpers had been designed along with our new badge...
Club Caps were chosen and ordered
The first game back in business vs. East Rainton CC, April 2013. We had made it, but were aware that it was going to take more hard work over the next couple of years to get where we wanted to be. For now, lets enjoy some cricket...
First game back, outfiled not looking great but wicket played surprisingly well, new sightscreens up in the background and 1st XI Captian (Gregg Arundel) plays a forward defensive shot...
A successful season culminated in promotion and finishing runners up in North East Durham Cricket League. This was the cup final XI who unfortunately finished runners up in the Norman Martin Cup...
A picture to sum up our great club spirit, what a fantastic set of players we have throughout every team...
November 2013 - Fundraising work goes on with the Littletown CC Cricket Legacy with a successful bid and public pitch at a Durham Area Action Partnership Event. £5k secured toward a new double lane net system to leave a leagacy for our new juniors...
End of 2013, a new groundsman had been appointed and end of season work had been completed, 6 months had passed and it looks like a different place...
Winter draws in... 2013
Capping a succesful year with a fantastic Presentation evening & Xmas Party for Players and families...
First cut of the square in 2014
Feb 2014... Work begins again, still so much to do but we know how far weve come already and we are ready to graft again. Here is the square being rolled under the watchful eye of Daniel Douglas (Head Groundsman)
Panoramic view - March 16th 2014
What a contrsat to this time last year?!? Another panoramic shot March 2014
More square rolling, ground has dried out very quick, fertilser and weed killer to be applied over the next weeks
Better quality germination sheets purchased and laid, bearing in mind how bare the square looked this time last year we are shaping up well...
Looking brilliant as we start the 2014 season
Thanks to the Coalfields Regeneration Trust we took delivery of some brand new covers from Durant Cricket - we certainly needed them at times and they came in very handy - May 2014
One of our nicer weather days at the start of the 2014 season...
A huge success for the club... Winning a national competition in 'The Cricketer' magazine in June 2014
Our Joint Sportsman's Dinner with Bill Quay CC of the Durham Cricket League.
A fantastic night with Rob Lee, Don Goodman and Kevin Connelly...
A freshly prepared track by our groundsman Doogle, looking better all the time - June 2014
Thanks to Taylormade (a local timber merchants) we were able to start the transformation of the ground at the top end by erecting a new fence - July 2014
Sponsorboards going up - Martin hammering, Tom supervising...
What a transformation, unbelievable in less than a season and a half of cricket - July 2014
He loves the lines in the surface...
Experimenting with coloured wide markers in July 2014
The Johnson Coates Cup Finalists in 2014. Our 2nd XI played against Belmont at Kimblesworth, our second cup final in as many weeks. Unfortunately the 1st XI were beaten by Beamish at Burhnhope the previous week, thankfully the 2nd XI fared better and were
Here it is... First silverware of the new era. The Johnson Coates Trophy August 2014
A hugely successful year culminated in a magnificent trophy haul at the league presentation, our last presentation in the North East Durham Cricket League...
Mr. Dan Pearson - Club Players Player of the Season, 1st Team player of the season, Best Average in League, Most Runs in league and club and over 1000 runs in all competitions... What a man!!!
End of season work - Nice day for it in October 2014 - hopefully this wont gather water next year...
Rotavating our 'messy' corner, extra few yards of outfield and preparation for our decking to be installed...
Thanks to our mild winter to date we have grass already through... More hard work to come in spring
