LLANDUDNO ACADEMY TRIALS.

This coming weekend sees Llandudno holding their annual trials day for any local young players who in addition to playing for their local junior team, would also like to be coached and play at a higher level.

Llandudno’s academy director Clive Rushton was in bullish mood this week in explaining the success of last years intake. ‘’ We signed some terrific players twelve months ago across all the age groups’’ said Rushton. ‘’ Our youngest boys who joined us at under 8s haven’t lost a single game all season, having played against most of the major academies across North Wales. Likewise, we took on some talented boys across older age groups too, which helped strengthen the academy as a whole’’.

Llandudno are currently installing a half million pound 3g surface at Maesdu Park, which will not only be a match day pitch for all their teams from under 8s through to the first team, but will also become an Academy Coaching Centre too.

Ex first team player and now academy coach Grant Montgomery explained how this will benefit the boys being coached within Tudno’s academy next year. ‘’ Ultimately it will help every player irrespective of age to develop their touch and feel with the ball’’ said Grant. ‘’Having all our coaching sessions as well as all our academy games on our own ground and playing on a first team pitch, can only help the boys as we try and develop their technique. It’s going to be a superb surface and everyone at the club is genuinely excited at what coaching our young players on it will do for their personal development next season’’.

Rushton feels it could be just the step forward the club need in taking their young players to the next level. ‘’Every English Premier League team coaches all their academy boys on a 3g surface, and their are quite a number of Welsh Premier League clubs now looking to install a pitch of this quality. We’ve gone for a top of the range surface which will help us bring out the best in those boys we currently have within the academy, and certainly those who join us over the coming weeks’’

Any aspiring players not currently registered and looking to be accepted into Llandudno’s academy next season, are invited to attend their trials day this weekend. Whilst time is tight if any players between the age of seven and fifteen would like to go along for an hours coaching session they should ring Clive Rushton on 07766 103781 for details of timing dependant on the age of the player.
