Speech From Michel Platini Highlights Llandudno's Big Day

The FAW was represented by the Wales manager Chris Coleman at the official opening of Llandudno Town’s newly completed 3G synthetic surface on Thursday 31st July 2014, a project which received funding from UEFA’s HatTrick programme.

The UEFA President today praised the project. Michel Platini, President of UEFA, said: “UEFA is delighted to see the work done by the Football Association of Wales in regards to the third-generation pitches inaugurated today. In March of 2013, our HatTrick
Committee approved the FAW’s project to build 14 artificial pitches, including Llandudno's, and I am pleased with the results so far.

The success of this project follows on from what was achieved in Wales in the previous HatTrick cycle, with the FAW utilizing our contribution to build the Dragon Park development centre in Newport.
“Since its inception in 2004, UEFA’s HatTrick program has contributed over €1.2 billion to football development projects across our National Associations in Europe. Our aim is to foster football at all levels by
investing in infrastructure, knowledge-sharing, training and educational programmes. I am passionate about
HatTrick and I am committed to making sure that its overall budget continues to increase.

“Hopefully football will continue to grow in Wales and fans there should be excited about the upcoming 2014 UEFA Super Cup on the 12th of August. We are all looking forward to travelling to Cardiff for the match between Real Madrid and Sevilla.”

The FAW has invested into the project as part of its Project 3G investment initiative which is funded through the UEFA HatTrick programme.

Chris Coleman, Wales National Team Manager, said: “This is a tremendous facility. I have travelled all over
Wales and seen these facilities being used and it is not only great news for Llandudno as a football club, but also the community.
“This is another example of the great work being done by the FAW and UEFA in grass roots football.
“Facilities like this throughout the country should make the football club the hub of the local community seven days a week.
“I am always impressed by the hard work of the unsung heroes at our football clubs, the army of volunteers. Llandudno is another fantastic example".
